چکیده

The present study was undertaken to investigate the protective roles of Adansonia digitata (African baobab) Cucumeropsis mannii (Melon), Abelmoschus esculentus (Okro), on lipid profile, bone health, and selected organs (liver, kidney, brain, testis) against cadmium-induced toxicity in rabbits. Twenty male rabbits were grouped into five with four each group. Group 1 served as positive control received standard feed 1.5 mg/kg body weight normal saline, group 2 negative exposed cadmium chloride, 3 supplemented feed, 4 chloride Citrullus lanatus while 5 given feed. All administrations orally lasted for 28 days. At end administration, blood, liver, testes harvested from biochemical histological analysis. One-way analysis variance followed by Turkey’s test used analyze results p < 0.05 considered significant. revealed that exposure caused a significant increase serum total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol concentration, atherogenic index cadmium. Cadmium also reduced calcium concentration. maintained plasma at 2.67 compared (2.66). three vegetables reversed up-regulation triacylglycerol brain but not testis. restored calcium. prevented organ damage induced exposure. These however play different

The history of introduction of the African baobab (Adansonia digitata, Malvaceae: Bombacoideae) in the Indian subcontinent

To investigate the pathways of introduction of the African baobab, Adansonia digitata, to the Indian subcontinent, we examined 10 microsatellite loci in individuals from Africa, India, the Mascarenes and Malaysia, and matched this with historical evidence of human interactions between source and destination regions. Genetic analysis showed broad congruence of African clusters with biogeographic...

Protective Role of Adansonia digitata Extract Against Glyphosate-induced Hepatorenal Toxicity in Adult Male Wistar Rats

Background: Glyphosate is the most widely used herbicide, and it poses numerous health risks to the environment and living organisms. This study aimed at assessing the protective role of Adansonia digitata (A. digitata) on glyphosate-induced hepatorenal toxicity in a Wistar rat model. Methods: Twenty-five rats were randomly divided into five groups of five animals each. The first group did not...

Status of African baobab (Adansonia digitata) across Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe

An assessment was done to determine the abundance and structure of baobab (Adansonia digitata) across Gonarezhou National Park, Zimbabwe. Baobabs were sampled on fifteen belt transects of constant width of 300 m with fifteen baobabs in each belt transect determined the length of a particular belt transect between May and June 2012. Our results showed that there were no significant differences i...

A 1000-Year Carbon Isotope Rainfall Proxy Record from South African Baobab Trees (Adansonia digitata L.)

A proxy rainfall record for northeastern South Africa based on carbon isotope analysis of four baobab (Adansonia digitata L.) trees shows centennial and decadal scale variability over the last 1,000 years. The record is in good agreement with a 200-year tree ring record from Zimbabwe, and it indicates the existence of a rainfall dipole between the summer and winter rainfall areas of South Afric...

Proximate Analysis, Phytochemical Screening and Antimicrobial Activity of Baobab (Adansonia digitata) Leaves

Baobab (Adansonia digitata L.) is known in Africa as the tree of life because there are many traditional uses for every part of it, from the leaves to the roots. This study carried out the proximate analysis of baobab leaves, screened the phytochemicals present and determined the leaves’ aqueous extract antimicrobial activity to suit the traditional way of preparation and use. Phytochemicals sc...
